Joe Nalven, Ph.D. JD

Joe Nalven grew up in Brooklyn, New York and came to San Diego in 1970. Along the way, he served in Peace Corps (Cali, Colombia), was a welfare worker (Brooklyn), a legislative assistant (San Diego City Council), a research associate (Institute of Chicano Urban Affairs), an arbitrator for Pechanga Resort and Casino, as well as having taught anthropology, humanities and lawyering skills courses. Beside his academic publications, Nalven has written numerous essays for the Times of San Diego, Minding the Campus, The White Rose Magazine and Climate Etc. He is also a digital artist and co-author of Going Digital: The Practice and Vision of Digital Artists. He has exhibited, curated and juried art shows as well as being the Chair of the San Diego Art Institute.
